Dovetailors

ABOUT

Dovetailors began with a simple idea and a passion for craftsmanship. Founded by master cabinetmaker and designer David Wilson — who also holds a PhD in engineering — the business started with bespoke commissions made from a home workshop. A natural problem solver, David brought technical precision and creative ambition to every project from day one.

Meanwhile, Emmanuelle Wilson was building a career in global export, developing expertise in sales, management, finance and governance — skills that would later prove invaluable in her role as Managing Director of Dovetailors.

Their first workshop opened in the Yorkshire Dales in 2005, accompanied by a small gallery that showcased the work of local artists and makers. Their earliest manufacturing customer was Cavendish Pianos, a nearby piano company who sought Dovetailors' expertise in wood component design.

From the beginning, Dovetailors gained a reputation for their collaborative, client-focused approach. They became known for bringing even the most unusual concepts to life, working closely with clients to refine ideas and deliver them with care, quality, and originality.

As their reputation for craftsmanship grew, Dovetailors began taking on larger projects for architects, designers, and renovation teams. One standout commission involved working with the community at Wakefield Cathedral, helping to reimagine its interior furnishings. The result was a respectful transformation that honoured the building's heritage while introducing modern functionality.
